Guidance for returning to school

As of October 1, testing guidelines for school have changed. The main update is that some children with only ONE mild symptom (sore throat, runny nose, headache, vomiting/diarrhea) may be monitored at home, and if the symptom is IMPROVED, they can return to school WITHOUT needing a COVID-19 test.

Your child does not need a note from the doctor before returning to school or daycare.

Please click the link to use the updated SCHOOL SCREENING TOOL to obtain guidance about your child's specific situation:

Update on IN-PERSON appointments

For the safety of other patients and our staff, we are unable to see any patients with symptoms that may represent infection. If we cannot see you in person, we are happy to offer a phone appointment.

  • When you call to make an appointment, you will be asked the following screening questions:
  1. Do you or your child have any of the following symptoms?
    • Fever
    • Cough
    • Runny nose
    • Shortness of breath
    • Sore throat
    • Diarrhea
    • Vomiting
    • Ear ache
  2. Has anyone in the household travelled within the last month?
  3. Has anyone in the household been exposed to anyone who tested positive for COVID-19?
  • Please be aware that if you fail to disclose any of the above symptoms, and we discover that you/your child has these symptoms upon arrival in our office, you will be asked to leave immediately.
  • Only ONE parent/caregiver will be allowed to accompany the patient inside the clinic

We remain open in order to see the some patients in person. Examples of appropriate in-person appointments:

  • Newborn visits
  • Well visits (check-ups)
  • Routine vaccines
  • Medically-essential visits
    • For example: weight checks, follow-up for medically-complex children, urgent sub-specialty consultations
    • We will determine what is an "essential" visit on a case-by-case basis

We are happy to continue to offer phone appointments throughout the pandemic.

  • The doctor may call you from a "No Caller ID" number.
    • Please ensure your phone accepts calls from blocked and unknown numbers.
    • If the doctor cannot reach you and you have voicemail, please check your voicemail about how to call the doctor back.
  • Examples of visits that can be done by phone:

    • Issues where a physical exam can wait until a future visit (e.g.: ADHD)
    • Issues where a physical exam can be reasonably replaced by photos sent by the parent/caregiver (e.g.: rash)
